At their annual employee party, landscape and snow management company James Martin Associates (JMA) awarded the Shari Dalziel scholarship to the children of employees Enrique Lopez and Tom Bolas.

Jocelyn Lopez, Round Lake Senior High School

Jocelyn Lopez is a Round Lake Senior High School senior who is part of the Schuler Scholar Program and National Honor Society. She also serves as a volunteer juror on Nicasa Teen Court, which oversees real cases of teens involved in crimes. She is enrolled in math, history, science, and a variety of other Honors courses and plans to study neuroscience and psychology in college.

“The James Martin Associates Scholarship is a reminder that my hard work has paid off,” Jocelyn said. “Not only was it an honor to be chosen, but it was an honor to see the smile on my parents face when we received the call. This scholarship symbolizes a key to a door of opportunities.”

Her father, Landscape Professional Enrique Lopez, has worked at JMA for 29 years.

“This scholarship is a representation of the hard work and long hours I have invested at my job to see my daughter succeed,” Enrique said. “She might not see it, but my daughter is my biggest motivation for waking up in the morning. Every sacrifice I have made has been to see my daughter accomplish her dreams.”

Jimmy Bolas, Libertyville High School

Senior Jimmy Bolas attends Libertyville High School where he is an active member of the football team and takes Honors courses in history and Spanish. He is also part of National Honor Society and is a student leader at his church. He plans to study history and education at Iowa State University and aspires to become a history teacher and football coach.

“I want to thank JMA for the opportunity to earn this scholarship. College tuition is very expensive, and this assistance is greatly appreciated,” Jimmy said.

His father, Tom Bolas, is the General Manager and Vice President at JMA. He started as an intern over 30 years ago and has worked in the landscape design and installation, snow removal, and commercial maintenance departments. He now also oversees the recently acquired Schwake Stone.

“I am very proud that my son Jimmy was awarded this scholarship in recognition of his hard work and future goals,” Tom said.
