Rick’s career started in Graphic Arts where he was a sole proprietor of a graphic arts firm. During the course of his years in the industry, he also developed a love for Horticulture, Landscape Design and Sustainable Garden Environments. Many summers were devoted to assisting neighbors and friends with their landscape development. With core values embedded in sustainable natural and prairie landscapes, and a life long love of botanical beautification and landscape management, Rick is a natural fit for Account Management at James Martin.
Along with his degree in art production from Western Illinois University, Rick is an Illinois licensed pesticide applicator and received prescribed burn training through the University of Illinois. Rick has 40+ class hours of Landscape Design and supporting studies with the College of DuPage and Chicago Botanic Garden. He volunteers over 100 hours a year in woodlands forest management for the undeveloped Hidden Lake at The Morton Arboretum. The Morton Arboretum program involves eliminating invasive shrub and tree species as well as seed collection and propagation of desired native plant perennials and woody plants.
Rick has always been drawn to the “great outdoors” and enjoys camping, hiking, long distance cycling and woodland exploration. If you see Rick at a customer property or just out enjoying nature stop and talk to him. He’d love to chat with you about landscape design, natural prairie landscaping, sustainable gardening, hardscape concepts or woodland restoration. You may find his enthusiastic perspective refreshing.
