Cool Season Annual Flowers

pansies

Beginning April and lasting through May, cool season flowers such as pansies, snapdragons, osteospermum and ranunculus present an intermediate color display between bulb flowering and the installation of summer annuals.

Cool season flowers may be planted in early spring and late fall when temperatures are too cool for summer annuals.  Cool season annuals are a wonderful addition as the landscape awakens after the winter season.

Spring Mulching

Mulch for your garden beds

A 2-4" layer of shredded hardwood bark mulch will provide additional moisture and a cooling effect for plant material during the heat of the summer.  While improving the general appearance of planting beds, mulch also reduces weed growth.  As the shredded hardwood bark mulch decomposes, nutrients and organic matter are incorporated into the soil, improving soil quality.  Amended compost improves the planting beds aesthetic value and also increases the nutrient and microorganism levels.  Plants love compost since nitrogen is the key element for a plant's leaf growth and development.
