Five Tips for Preparing Your Lawn for the Spring

By Dave Moser, Residential Account Manager

Though winter has its own beauty, we long for the warmth and vitality of spring.  Here are some easy tips to ensure your home's lawn has a vibrant start to the spring season.

  1. Assess your Spring Needs – Don't wait until the last-minute to decide if you want to make changes or enhancements to your property. Winter is the time to plan ahead for lawn and planting needs.
  2. Remove Debris – Removing over-wintered debris such as leaves and fallen branches from your lawn areas will give your grass a fresh start as spring begins.
  3. Prune – Removing dead and diseased plant parts promotes healthy growth for the upcoming spring, but remember to wait until spring to prune your maple trees and birch trees.
  4. Control Weeds – Before weeds emerge, use pre-emergent herbicides on your lawn.
  5. Prevent Deer Damage – Protect your plants from feasting deer during the winter by looking into deer repellant and deer netting.
